Link Object is a reference to information in another document. There is a link between documents and any changes made to the source document will be reflected in destination documents. So if we embed a raster image in a drawing file as an OLE object, the image will be saved in the.dwg file. To do that we have to go through 6 simple steps.
Object(s) outline is not displayed while using commands like Copy, Move, Rotate etc. the most likely reason for this behaviour is the current setting of system variable DragMode.

DRAGMODE System Variable
Type: Integer
Saved in: Registry
Initial value: 2
Controls the display of objects being dragged. When Drag mode is on, AutoCAD shows the image of an object as you drag it to another position. With some computer configurations, dragging can be time-consuming. Use DRAGMODE to suppress dragging.
0 Does not display an outline of the object as you drag it
1 Displays the outline of the object as you drag it only if you enter drag on the command line after selecting the object to drag
2 Auto; always displays an outline of the object as you drag it

ON -> Permits dragging, but you must enter drag where appropriate in a drawing or editing command to initiate dragging.
OFF -> Ignores all dragging requests, including those embedded in menu items.
Auto -> Turns on dragging for every command that supports it. Dragging is performed whenever it is possible. Entering drag each time is not necessary.

Basically, I've got multiple tables I want to display throughout the drawing and I'd like them to be linked to a single excel, while still being embedded rather than linked to an external excel file. I've been able to use an excel OLE within blocks before to accomplish this for the same table repeated throughout a drawing, but I'm hitting a. In the Paste OLE Tool Settings dialog set the Method to By Size and set the appropriate scale. Place a data point in the view to place the linked excel sheet. Importing Options: There are three ways to import the source files as pictures, embedded files, or linked files. – A picture is a screen capture of the application.
MicroStation can import files from external application such as Microsoft Word and Excel.

Importing Options:

– A picture is a screen capture of the application. The image is static and is not updated when changes are made to the source.
– An embedded file is imported and saved into the DGN file. Edits made to the embedded file are saved in the DGN file.
– A linked file is imported to the DGN file but still resides in the original application. Edits are made to the source file and can be updated using the MicroStation Update link tool.
MicroStation Viewing:
When viewing a linked or embedded file in MicroStation it may appear shaded. This is due to the source application, Excel, being currently opened and its worksheet edited (see screen shot below). Once the source application is saved and closed the shading will not be seen in MicroStation
OLE Updating:

After changes are made to the source application the data stored in the DGN file will need updating. OLE data can be updated from the MicroStation pulldown menu Edit>Update Links
